For some older adults, removing and replacing the standard section used as an entrance in a removable pool fence can require more hand pressure and coordination than using a walk-through gate. A self-closing pool gate provides a defined entrance that swings closed and latches automatically after it is released.
A self-closing gate can also be useful in homes where a teenager regularly enters the pool area while a younger child is present. Because an older child may forget to close or reconnect a standard opening, Tru-Close hinges and a MagnaLatch add an automatic closing and latching step. This barrier is an added layer of protection, never a substitute for active adult supervision.
When the gate is released from its normal open position, adjustable Tru-Close hinges bring it back toward the frame and the MagnaLatch secures it. The existing video below shows the gate operating with the same type of hardware used in our installations.
Each gate uses a welded 1-inch aluminum frame with a powder-coated finish for durable outdoor service. We evaluate the gate supports and surrounding deck to help keep the opening stable and properly aligned. The assembly includes Tru-Close hinges, a MagnaLatch and stainless-steel hardware where appropriate.
The magnetic latch is positioned to create a consistent, easy-to-check closing point. Proper alignment matters, so we evaluate the posts, frame and surrounding removable pool fence as one barrier system.
Adjustable Tru-Close hinges control the gate’s return toward the closed position. During installation, the hinge tension and latch alignment are set so the gate closes reliably under normal use.
A gate can often be installed on pavers or travertine when the base is stable. Pavers set over sand may move under the extra load of a gate, so concrete footers may be recommended after a site evaluation, but they are not required for every project.
